Pickleball has become the fastest growing racquet sport in the country, and many parks and clubs now share tennis courts with painted pickleball lines or have converted courts outright. Dedicated pickleball facilities, indoor and outdoor, rent courts by the hour and run open play sessions where players rotate in. Padel, played on an enclosed court with glass walls, is arriving in the Sun Belt and big cities; platform tennis (paddle) is a winter game on heated, elevated courts in the Northeast and Midwest; racquetball and squash live inside athletic clubs and YMCAs; badminton and table tennis have their own clubs in most metro areas. Equipment is cheap to rent or borrow for a first session at nearly all of them.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Pittsburgh peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. I’m not a sporty person at all but for some reason I really wanted to try pickleball so I was happy when this even came up. I had to try it. The people at the place were very nice from the moment you walked in, during the demo and as you played. They made you feel automatically comfortable and that they were happy we were there. Those are the things that make a difference in an event and make you want to come back. The man who ran the demo explained things in a really simple way and was nice about answering everyone’s questions during it and while playing. I couldn’t seem to get my hit right and he told me to relax and it would come to me. We had a great time laughing while we tried to get the hang of it. It’s definitely harder than it looks. It was a lot of fun and I’d like to try it again sometime even though I wasn’t very good. I’d definitely recommend it for beginners because they said anyone can come who has someone else who wants to play and regardless of skill level. That alone made you realize how much the owners love it and how passionate they are to build community which is refreshing.

I came during a very busy time—and by busy, I mean 20-people-waiting-in-line-to-play busy. The paddle system in place is two-on, two-off, which, during normal times is probably fine, but during busy times, it exponentially slows things down. It should have been 4 people on, 4 people off since there were so many people waiting. On top of that, there's a two-game maximum, but there’s no way to tell whether players are on their first or second game, meaning that players can just stay on the court and play indefinitely with literally no consequence. Because the rotation system depends on players policing themselves, it crumbles at the first sign of pressure. It's like when people leave out the Halloween candy bowl with a “take one” sign—you trust everyone to follow the rules, but since there’s no enforcement, it simply doesn’t work. Ironically, there was a staff member there at the courts, but... they were literally just standing there. They didn't do or say anything to help rotate the players in any way. And I'm not even going to go into detail on the skill level issue, either. But just know there are 5 courts for skill levels 3.0-3.9 (which is way too much skill variance to have

The intermediate courts were nice with lots of space around them. Good lighting and good surfaces. Also some fun hangout space, changing rooms, and restrooms.

Great spot to play pickleball! I am a beginner and always feel welcome playing here. The drop-in fee is super affordable for unlimited daily play. Never too crowded. I've come with a group a few times on a weekend day and never had any trouble getting a court to ourselves for a while. Great low key spot to learn the sport.

Really great environment and great play! With the city parks being busy and not a good rotation system in place, the Warehouse has figured that out! Their rotation system means great competition and no sitting around for long periods of time, along with nice new court surfacing. The staff is wonderful and their pro-shop is top notch with entry level to high end equipment from the best brands such as Joola, Selkirk, Six Zero, Diadem and much more. We love the pickleball warehouse!
